How do I register my child in the choir?

We accept singers from the age of 6 to 11 (may accept 12 years old on specific occasions). All singers need to have a vocal assessment in order to join. Visit this page to inquire about registration and see below for more questions about Vocal Assessments.
It is the middle of the year, can I still register my child in Markham Children’s Choir?

It is possible to register mid-year for our programs. To find out more on how to register, contact the Choir Office or complete the enquiry form.
My child has never had formal vocal training before. Is that required to be able to join?

No formal training is required to join the choir. We welcome all singers regardless of experience or musical background.
How many children are in your program?

Currently we only have one class for the age group. We will expand to more classes and age groups in the near future. The class size is limited to a maximum of 25 at this stage.
When and where are the rehearsals?

Rehearsals take place at the Markham Wesley Centre located at 22 Esna Park Drive, Markham, ON L3R 1E1. Practice date and time is: Main Choir, Saturdays, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Training Choir, Saturdays, 3:40 PM - 4:00 PM
Why does a new member joining the program have to participate in a vocal assessment?

The main objective during a vocal assessment is to get to know the singers and their individual needs. This is also an opportunity for the singers to get to know the environment and the staff. Markham Children’s Choir is committed to create a safe and comfortable environment for the singers and their parents.
How do I sign up for an assessment?

You can sign up for a vocal assessment by completing the vocal assessment form booking form.
What do I need to prepare for the vocal assessment?

What will be the arrangement for inclement weather?

We will notify the parents about class cancellation due to inclement weather before 11:00 AM on the day of practice (i.e. Saturday)
